Sniff Test: Deseo Jennifer Lopez

A diamond in the rough bottle in a textured linen-look carton, Deseo Jennifer Lopez ($59 for 50ml eau de parfum at department and drug stores across Canada) means ‘I desire.’ What Ms.Lopez desired in this latest addition to her blockbuster fragrances is a floral woody perfume with notes of Sicilian bergamot, freesia, jasmine, orange blossom, mimosa, amber, sandalwood, musk and patchouli. It’s said to be inspired “by the smell and feel of the air during a midnight walk in Jennifer’s flower garden.”

He Says:

Wow. This is surprisingly sophisticated. It opens on a grapefruit note but quickly dries down to a soft green feel courtesy of watery bamboo notes. There are the expected floral notes of mimosa, orange blossom and geranium flower. Yet these are offset by what I’d describe as warm sand notes. This scent reflects a more matureJennifer Lopez. 3 / 4 noses

She Says:

Another faceted flacon, another difficult to remove cap (remember Fabulosity?). But happily, not another stinker. Deseo smells...expensive. And high-maintenance (not unlike its creator). There’s a sharpness to the opening citrus note and the loudness of a French market stall’s worth of flowers (both kindof reminiscent of J.Lo’s hotel room rider: “at least 10 difference fresh white flowers in every room, or else!”). It calms down and melts into a creamy floral, eventually. Rich and confident, but I’ve smelled this sort of composition before.
